Purpose & eligibility

NET is NUST’s entry-test route for undergraduate admission. Your academic background and intended degree determine the paper you take. Meeting the entry requirements makes you eligible for consideration; it does not guarantee a place.

Academic eligibility: NUST requires at least 60% each in SSC and HSSC or equivalent, plus the required subject combination. Part-I applicants and O/A Level students awaiting results can apply under NUST’s conditions; final results and IBCC equivalence must satisfy admission requirements.

Pre-medical or O/A Level background?

Check the degree-specific eligibility table before choosing a paper. Engineering and Computing routes can require additional or remedial Mathematics; engineering routes may involve NUST’s condensed Mathematics course. Requirements differ by degree.

Format & syllabus

NET has 200 multiple-choice questions in 180 minutes. NUST states there is no negative marking. Delivery varies by centre and series; select the option shown in your application.

Test-day checklist

Use your admit card for the exact reporting time, venue, required original ID and permitted materials. Arrange travel in advance and check your session carefully. A missed session is not automatically moved to another date.

For computer-based NET, practise the official sample interface before test day so you know how to navigate questions.

Results & next steps

NUST considers the best NET score when you take more than one attempt in an admission cycle. Its FAQs state that computer-based results are normally uploaded within 24 hours; paper-based results take 5–7 working days.

NUST’s general NET merit weighting is 75% NET, 10% SSC/O Level equivalent and 15% HSSC/Part-I/A Level equivalent. For applicants in their final A Level year, its published rule assigns 25% to O Level equivalence; check the official criteria for your situation.

Check the merit criteria for your qualification and degree, then monitor selection lists and acceptance deadlines. A previous year’s closing merit is a guide, not a guaranteed cutoff.

How to prepare

Suggested study approach from Amicus. Adapt the pace to your starting level and application deadline.

  1. Confirm your paper’s subject weightings and use the official sample test.
  2. Build a topic checklist from SSC/HSSC concepts and your relevant textbooks. For Engineering, give Mathematics a large share of your study time.
  3. Practise mixed MCQs under time limits and review why every error happened.
  4. Include English throughout your plan; rehearse a full three-hour attempt and a reliable question-review routine.

Common questions

Is NET only for Engineering?

No. NUST publishes different papers for Engineering/Computing, Applied Sciences, Business and Social Sciences, Architecture and specified Natural Sciences applicants.

Does NUST count the latest attempt or the best one?

The admissions portal says the best score is considered when candidates attempt NET more than once.

Can I apply while waiting for my final result?

NUST allows specified provisional routes. You must meet its final qualification, subject and equivalence requirements before admission is confirmed.

Is 60% enough to secure a place?

It is the basic academic eligibility threshold. Selection still depends on merit, programme preferences, available seats and completion of admission requirements.
